Buxton Round 4 Report

The High Edge Raceway towers above the town of Buxton and provided a superb venue for Round four of the National Championships. With the previous round cancelled due to rain it had been a 6 week break for some of the riders. Strong winds moved heavy clouds over the track during the day but actually it was the water truck that provided the only moisture.

The loose surface at High Edge provided some great and sometimes unpredictable racing.  The competition in the Pro Class was intense George Pickering, Alan Birtwhistle and Darren Trapmore were all in contention for a podium position but it was HM Plant Honda rider Aiden Collins came out on top in the Pro class. It was a tough final which saw the yellow flags raised for title contender Tim Neave who fell with 3 laps to go. Tim’s twin brother Tom did a superb job of defending the family honour with a well-deserved second place in front of Suzuki rider Peter Boast.

Tim Neave more than made up for his performance in the Pro class with an excellent win on the Roeder prepared CR500 in the Thunderbike Class leaping ahead of Neil Martin to lead the championship with 2 rounds still to complete. Neil was unlucky to go out during the heat stages with a sick motor. Fellow CC engineering rider Dave Chadburn had a really consistent day to take second place and the Ace Café rider of the day. Third place went to Guy Sutherland on his Co-Built rotax.

In the restricted class a battle raged throughout the day between Ross Herrod, Aaron Silvester and Anthony Brown. Brown was leading into the final and had first pick of the grid but it was the youthful Silvester that took the win with Ross a close second and Anthony had to settle for third place. Aaron will now jump ahead of Vince Hirst in the championship standings and will have his eyes firmly fixed on a pro plate for 2014.

Andrew Collison continued his winning ways in the Rookie class. It was bad luck for French rider Dimitri Coste. He had some great heat races on his little BSA but his cut out got broken in a first corner tangle during the final.

There was some tough and close racing in the youth classes. 14 year old Oliver Brindley took his 3rd win of the season in the Senior class. Ben Neave who has dominated the inter class was pushed into second place by Sam Wooley.  Chad Witzfield took the honours in the junior class.

The Action moves back to the small banked track at Rye House for Round 5 on the 15th Sept.
